hey i just read your blog post and it was helpful for me bc i'm just searching for a helpful twitter-client. no one so far fullfills my wishes. i used to tweet from seesmich but after the recent update some things doenst work anymore and the whole app freezes all the time and is very slow. dont know if i'm the only one with this issue and what it could be. the buttons on the bottom left used to be a single/multi-column view button and it worked in the former version. now it doesnt work anymore. i already reported that to seesmic but got no reaction on that. also the mark as read became very uncomfortable. in the former version it was possible to mark as read by scrolling. if they would fix that, i think its the best client for me. tweetdeck is horrible for me bc i go crazy with all that columns. i run 3 accounts and several lists, follow over 500 ppl and i'd wish to have a single column view. and the new version doesnt support deck.ly anymore which would be reason enough for me to search for another client. i tried metrotwit too and loved the style of it, but i dont know something made ma uninstall that too. i think it needs more features like showing who retweeted me and faved me, trends and stuff. I found two other clients i got hopes in a good developement: one is sharedminds desktop. its like the outlook-version of twitter and works really well. you should try that. but it also misses some features like showing unread tweets and notifications. but it seems as if they're already working on it. second is nymphicus. its an app you can decide urself which streams u wanna see. its quite helpful when u run several accounts and lists. and it supports twitlonger which is a must for me. another good app seemed to be mixero, but sadly it doesnt seemed to be updated anymore. it shows now dm, but has definitely an amazing outfit.
ps: those are all win7 desktop clients, bc thats what i'm desperately searching for. for iphone i can recommend tweetlogix, by far the best i could find. it fullfills every wish.

Thanks for the thoughts on MetroTwit :) Scrolling (when new tweets arrive) is something we keep playing with trying to get the right mix for everyone.
